Novak Djokovic celebrates his win
21-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic won his 30th consecutive match in Australia after he beat Constant Lestienne 6-3,6-2 in his opening Adelaide International match. The win on Tuesday also meant Djokovic has won the last 48 of his previous 50 matches in the country. His overall record in Australia is an astonishing 73 wins in 76 games he has competed in at the Australian Open, ATP Cup, and now the Adelaide International.
Djokovic won his first two service games but did not successfully break Lestienne’s serve either. He was in a spot of bother when he faced a break point at 2-2. He rallied back to win the first set dropping just one more game. Djokovic then finished the match, winning the second set while dropping just two games.
Djokovic complimented his opponent after the match, praising his serve and game management. He said he was happy with his performance and thanked the crowd for coming down to watch him in action. Djokovic said,” First of all I have to say I’m glad to be back in Australia. Thank you all for coming out today. For the first match, I can’t complain. I thought I played very well. I thought the first, probably, six games were pretty competitive, and I had never faced him before today’s match.
“He’s a counterpuncher, he doesn’t make too many mistakes, and he kind of absorbs the pace from his opponent. He also has a kind of tricky serve. But once I made that break at 3-2 first set I stepped it up one or two levels and played pretty good tennis the rest of the match”, he said. The last time Djokovic lost a match in Australia was in 2018 when he was defeated in the fourth round of the Australian Open.
Djokovic’s record-breaking win further cements his claim as the best hard-court player ever. The World Number 5 will aim to consolidate this claim with a win at the Adelaide International. He will also be aiming to increase his Grand Slam title count by winning the Australian Open, which begins on January 16.

Novak Djokovic’s record at the Australian Open
Djokovic is the most successful player at the Australian Open. The Serbian has lifted nine Australian Open titles in his career so far. He has won the last three editions he has participated in. He has three more titles than Roger Federer, who is second on the list.
Djokovic was denied a chance to participate in the 2022 Australian Open due to his unvaccinated status and visa being cancelled. This will make him more eager to go all the way to win the Grand Slam title.
The Australian Open is special to Djokovic, having been the first Grand Slam title of his career. His preparation for the Open is off to a great start and Djokovic will be expecting a good performance at the tournament.
