Novak Djokovic has made his goals for the upcoming season clear in his latest statement. The Serb clearly mentioned that besides aiming to win an Olympic gold in tennis, he has his eyes on two new milestones for the 2024 season. Apart from that, he will once again try to win everything that is there to win.
The Serb said he first wants to win a third title in the Monte Carlo Masters. The clay court tournament is the ATP Masters event where Djokovic has the worst record in his career, which makes it unique. He has only won two titles in the tournament so far and wants to add a third to the tally. Moreover, he also wants to break Jimmy Connors‘ all-time record of titles. Connors has an all-time record of 109 titles, while Djokovic is just behind with 90 titles.
Apart from that, the Serb has openly talked about his wish to win an Olympic gold for a long time now. He has a bronze from the 2008 Beijing Olympics but wants a first-place finish in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Nole said the Olympics can often be overwhelming, which adds to the pressure and difficulty of the event.
You asked the question and then gave an answer. Of course, the Olympics are a huge desire of mine – it’s a unique opportunity, I have a bronze from Beijing 2008… A lot of things are different at the Olympics – you can’t bring your whole team, some of the routines you usually have are limited, there are a lot of athletes from other sports, which gives you the energy on one hand, but it drains you on the other… All those things you mentioned – I want it all, why not, and we’ll see where it ends.Djokovic while talking to Serbian journalists ollowing win at the Nitto ATP Finals (H/T: Tennis Majors)
Novak Djokovic said he wants to keep his current team intact
Djokovic has gained immense success from his current team which comprises Goran Ivanisevic, Carlos Gomez Herrera, Miljan Amanovic, Marco Panichi and Claudio Zimaglila. The Serb wishes to continue with the same core team in the upcoming year as well and explained the importance and role of a good team in tennis.
We are talking, negotiating, my plan is to keep going with this group of people and I hope we all stay together, since we have had amazing results. This is an individual sport, a player decides on a lot of things, lots of preparation and recovery, so the role of the team is crucial.
The 2023 season was hands down one of the most successful seasons in Novak Djokovic’s career. He won three Grand Slam, became the runner-up at Wimbledon, won the 2023 ATP Finals, and won a number of ATP 1000 tournaments. The Serb will hope to start the next season in a similar fashion.
