The conclusion of the 2023 French Open has been historic for many reasons. Not only did Novak Djokovic win his third title in Roland Garros, but he also became the leader in the race for most singles Grand Slam titles. Tied with arch-rival Rafael Nadal at 22 titles each, Djokovic has now overtaken the Spaniard for the first time in his career.

No other player in the Open Era has more singles Majors than Djokovic now. Only the great Serena Williams with her 23 titles has held back the Serb from proclaiming the record single-handedly. But knowing Djokovic’s ability to break records, it is just a matter of time before he moves past Williams as well.

While Djokovic fans globally rejoiced at his historic moment, shots were fired at many others. The taunts were not only limited to tennis rivalries. Microsoft co-founder and business magnate Bill Gates was also caught in the crossfire. The American has been strong advocate of taking the Covid-19 vaccines for prevention from the disease that wreaked havoc globally.

Gates’ influence has been found extra ‘motivating’ for officials as per many. Djokovic’s denied entry into the USA for the 2022 US Open and the events in 2023 as well angered a lot of Djokovic fans. Their anger was justified as the Serb played the 2021 edition when the Pandemic situation was worse than it was in 2022. Despite missing the events and still achieving the record, Gates had to swallow some tough pills.

With Bill Gates becoming more active in philanthropy and social work, his opinion is quite respected. However, with the choice of getting vaccinated being every individual’s personal decision, forced vaccination has been a long-standing debate. Gates has been accused of forcing strict regulations against people not taking the vaccine and the tycoon is blamed as one of the reasons for Novak Djokovic’s entry being denied in the USA.

While nothing has been proven against Gates so far, he remains innocent until proven guilty. However, that works only for the lawmakers. The Nolefam did not waste any time in targeting and having a go at Gates for his previous comments as well.

It’s a good time to remind that Djokovic has never been anti-vaccine. He has always maintained the stance of not taking it personally. The reason being simply that he fears any side effect might hamper his performance on the court which is his primary source of earnings. Post-retirement, he might consider taking the vaccine but till the time he hangs up his boots, he won’t take it.
