Novak Djokovic returned to the US hardcourt season after two years and played his first match since Wimbledon at the Cincinnati Open. During his doubles match with partner Nikola Ćaćić, the Serb was amazed by the overwhelming crowd support.
Even though they lost the match against Michael Venus and Jamie Murray, the support that Djokovic received was absolutely incredible. He is looking forward to this tournament and has great expectations for the US Open.
Djokovic will start preparing on US soil for the first time since 2021 after the COVID vaccine requirement for non-US travelers was lifted in 2023. For the uninitiated, the tennis professional could not play because he was unvaccinated, and he believes that he would rather miss out on future tennis trophies than be forced to get a COVID vaccination.
Djokovic began his journey this week at the Cincinnati Open before moving on to the US Open. Furthermore, his last match in the United States was at the 2021 US Open, where he lost in three straight sets against Daniil Medvedev.
The World No. 2 was surprised by the fans’ support during his practice session and expressed gratitude to his supporters from all across the world. In his recent interview with ATP Tour he said, “It’s really amazing. I’m very grateful for the presence of so many people on a practice session, which is amazing. Again, I did experience some tournaments throughout the world, similar atmospheres in terms of the great attendance on the practice courts.“
Continuing his train of thoughts, he further added, “People were really into it. As I mentioned before, lots of young fans, which is always something I wish to see. That gives me even more inspiration to play my best tennis in the tournament“
Djokovic is pumped and is looking forward to this week at the Cincinnati Open.

Novak Djokovic looking forward to his 24th Grand Slam title
Following a disappointing loss at Wimbledon, where Djokovic came so close to winning the tournament but fell short to young gun Carlos Alcaraz in the finals, With scores of 6-1, 6-7, 1-6, 6-3, 4-6, Djokovic choked during the fifth set due to a breakpoint blunder, which ultimately led to him lacking confidence in his performance and causing him to lose the match.
After losing in the finals, Djokovic said on Sunday that he was “over it in a day” and was looking forward to the hard-court swing. The US Open begins on August 28th, so it will be interesting to see if Novak can reclaim his title.
