Novak Djokovic gives a major update on his 2023 Australian Open participation amidst the ‘horrendous’ vaccine mandate in Australia

Serbian maestro Novak Djokovic wasn’t allowed to defend his Australian Open title earlier this year as he was deported from the country on arrival due to his vaccination status. As per the ruling, he was banned to travel to the country for 3 years which also puts his participation in the 2023 Australian Open under doubt.
Speaking to the press after his first-round win in Nur-Sultan, Djokovic addressed the issue and revealed that he is still waiting for some news on his 3-year travel ban to be removed. He said that once the ban is revoked, he will apply for the visa. As he did on multiple occasions earlier this year, he expressed his wish to play in Australia once again.
“I’m still waiting for the news for my ban to be removed (I have travel ban for 3 years I think) due to the circumstances earlier this year. Once that’s removed I have to apply for a visa. I wish to go and I wish to play there,” Djokovic said.
Good days lie ahead of Novak Djokovic after a tough run
Despite having a tough start to the season due to various reasons, Novak Djokovic has finally found consistency and is winning big once again. He won his 21st major title at Wimbledon and then after not playing for almost a month, he won the Tel Aviv Open without dropping a set.
This week in Nur-Sultan, he is the favorite and won his opening match convincingly against Cristian Garin in straight sets 6-1,6-1. He will now face Botic Van de Zandschulp in the Round of 16 on Thursday. He will then take a week’s break before playing the Paris Masters as the defending champion.
