Novak Djokovic cruised into the finals of the 2023 French Open, as he defeated the top seed Carlos Alcaraz in four sets on Friday. The Serbian reached his seventh French Open final, as he has set his sights on a record 23rd Grand Slam title. Novak Djokovic currently shares the record for most Grand Slam titles with Rafael Nadal, who is out on the sidelines due to a long injury.
The Serb has revealed in the past that his goal was to end his career with the most Grand Slam titles. At the moment, it seems like he is heading in the right direction, as he could claim his second Major title of the year on Sunday. Nadal will only return to tennis in 2024, and with Roger Federer already retired, Novak Djokovic is in a good position to end his career with the most titles.
Despite the mutual respect the Big Three share amongst themselves, their respective fanbases have always relished an opportunity to take a dig at one another. Soon after he booked a place in the finals of the French Open, Novak Djokovic’s fanbase mocked the ‘Fedal’ fans, claiming that the 36-year-old was the ‘GOAT’ of Tennis.
Novak Djokovic fans take a dig at Fedal fans after French Open semifinal victory
Djokovic fans took to social media to express their delight at the result. Carlos Alcaraz entered the match as the favorite, given how dominant he had been during the course of the clay court season. However, the Spaniard suffered cramps in the final two sets, which rendered him unable to put up a fight against the World No. 3.
Novak Djokovic is now just one victory away from becoming the first male tennis player to win all four Major titles on at least three occasions. The Serb could also regain his World No. 1 ranking with a victory on Sunday. Djokovic has dropped just two sets on his way to the finals, as he enters as the certain favorite to claim the title.
The 36-year-old had a pretty mediocre clay court season in lead-up to the French Open, as he lost in the quarterfinals of the Italian and Serbian Open. However, he stepped up when it mattered the most in Paris. Djokovic has been undefeated in Grand Slams for almost over a year, with his last defeat coming against Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals of the 2022 French Open.
