WATCH: Novak Djokovic amusingly imitates Daniil Medvedev’s on-court mannerisms during Monte Carlo Masters practice
Djokovic has a few laughs as he copies Medvedev's on-court behavior in Monte Carlo
The much-awaited 2023 Monte Carlo Masters is scheduled to begin next week. The No.1 seed Novak Djokovic is hoping to make an impressive comeback after his ban from the Sunshine Doubles. Djokovic hopes to clinch his third title at the opening clay tournament of the season. Daniil Medvedev is among the other aspirants at the event also.
During the practice session for the upcoming matches, the Serbian was spotted playing some rounds at the Monte-Carlo Country Club. Much to the watching crowd’s amusement, Djokovic imitated Medvedev’s mannerisms during tennis matches. Djokovic’s impersonation brought much laughter from the crowd.
Djokovic gave a stellar performance to the audience during the practice session. While playing mini tennis with Jannik Sinner, the 35-year-old impersonated the Russian’s characteristic grunts on the court. The crowd applauded the 22-time Grand Slam champion for his imitation. The player will most probably even face Medvedev at the Masters event.
Additionally, the Serbian also employed the same return position as Medvedev. The 2021 US Open champion’s return position has continuously been a topic of discussion among fans. Djokovic’s antics greatly amused fans who were watching him in action. This is not Djokovic’s first rodeo, he has previously imitated Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Maria Sharapova among others.
The World No.1 is rumored to face Medvedev in the semi-finals. The duo will face off if he manages to triumph against Sinner in the quarter-finals. Jokes aside, Djokovic wishes to consolidate his position at the top of the rankings with an ATP 1000 win, after going back and forth with Carlos Alcaraz for the rank.
Can Novak Djokovic clinch his third Monte Carlo Masters title?
With Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz out of the main draw, Djokovic has no formidable opponent to face. However, the Serb still has to compete against Stefanos Tsitsipas, who is the defending champion. Moreover, Sinner-who Djokovic was practicing with- also poses an obstacle for the two-time Monte Carlo champion.
Medvedev, despite not being a clay expert per se, could also become a difficulty for Djokovic. Djokovic will play his first round in Monte Carlo on April 11, either against Brandon Nakashima or Mackenzie McDonald.
