Former World No. 1 Tim Henman has called Novak Djokovic a conflicted character for focusing more on his haters than his fans on Sky Sports during the fortnight of the 2023 US Open. He has pointed out how the Serb has not yet received complete unanimity in his ‘GOAT’ status among fans just because of his treatment towards his haters despite being the most decorated player in the history of the sport.

The 36-year-old always finds a way to come at his haters on and off the court in a very passionate way, and that is not often well-received. Talking about this, Tim Henman said, “He has always been a character who has slightly divided opinion, and it’s not always because of his tennis, but rather because of certain decisions he made off the court.”

“But having watched him a lot, I find him to be a conflicted character. Even if he had 80% of the public’s support, I think he would be the type of person to focus on the other 20% and use it to motivate himself and stimulate himself,” he added.

Henman reiterated that he finds it fascinating how Novak Djokovic often focuses more on the individuals in the stands than the opponent that he is facing. However, the retired player concurred that no matter how the Serb approaches this, it cannot be denied that it works for him very well and he gets the much-desired result in the end, which, after all, is all that matters.

Novak Djokovic has achieved it all in his career, and he has broken all records. His victory in the 2023 French Open marked the 23rd Grand Slam win of his career, which is the most won by any individual ever, breaking Rafael Nadal’s record of 22 Grand Slam titles. However, the Serb is far from done.

He wants to keep winning Grand Slams and is eagerly looking for his 24th. He came close to adding to his tally in the 2023 Wimbledon when he made it to the sensational final only to lose against young gun Carlos Alcaraz in an intense final.

If anything, it has only added fuel to his fire to win his 24th Grand Slam title, and he will look to achieve that in the upcoming US Open. Having defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the Cincinnati Open final to lift the trophy was a great way to mark his comeback and announce that he will be entering the US Open with only one goal: to win the trophy.
