The legend of Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon continues to rewrite itself. Up against Italian young gun Jannik Sinner, Nole clinched a 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(4) win on a buzzing Centre Court after a battle of 2 hours and 46 minutes. With the win, Djokovic is into his fifth straight finals at the Championships and his eighth of this decade.

The four-time defending champion did not allow Sinner to settle into the match. In their last year’s Wimbledon meeting, the Italian went on to win the first two sets forcing a five-set comeback from Nole. Learning his lessons, Djokovic secured early breaks in both the first and second sets to get an early lead.

Going into the finals, Djokovic will be riding high on confidence given his vast experience. He has dropped only two sets so far this fortnight. Hubert Hurkacz and Andrey Rublev were only two to taje a set off from Djokovic during this year’s Wimbledon. “Semi-finals was always going to be very close and very intense. I think maybe the scoreline doesn’t give the reality of what happened on court. It was super close,” said Djokovic during his on-court interview after the win.

As for Sinner, his wait for a maiden Grand Slam final continues. Having run into Djokovic in last year’s Wimbledon as well, he would sure be laughing on his misfortune. He battled his best in the third set forcing a tiebreaker but the Serb came clutch to wrap it in straight-sets. Nevertheless, Sinner has shown yet again he’s destined for great success and just needs one bout of luck.

With his entry into the finals of this year’s Wimbledon, Novak Djokovic will certainly be making legends of the sport sweat. A win in Sunday’s finals will take him at par with Roger Federer who currently holds the record for most singles titles with eight titles at the All-England Club. The overall singles titles record is held by Martina Navratilova who won nine titles during her illustrious career.

Djokovic has already matched Serena Williams’ Open Era record of 23 Grand Slam titles. A 24th Major will take him ahead of the American great and tie him with Margaret Court who holds the all-time record with her 24 Majors. The Aussie great however won 13 titles in the Amateur Era before winning 11 more in the Open Era.

Following his win in the 2023 French Open when he overtook Rafael Nadal for most Men’s singles Majors, Djokovic’s haul was compared to that of Court’s. However, with his eighth Wimbledon title, he will certainly be silencing his doubters yet again. All to play for Nole on Sunday, the question his fans will however ask will be a straight-set win or another five-set thriller.
