Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic parted ways with his long-time coach and former Croatian tennis star Goran Ivanisevic. The 36-year-old announced the separation on Wednesday through a social media post. Djokovic said that the pair mutually decided to part ways over ups and downs in their “on-court chemistry”.
The Serbian wrote a long caption in the social media post where he talked about his bond with the Croatian. Djokovic recalled the success he achieved while working with Ivanisevic. He then revealed the reason behind the two legends parting ways.
Goran and I decided to stop working together a few days ago. Our on court chemistry had its ups and downs, but our friendship was always rock solid. In fact, I am proud to say (not sure he is) that apart from winning tournaments together, we also had a side battle in Parchisi going on… for many years. And - that tournament never stops for us.Novak Djokovic wrote in his Instagram post.
This comes after Novak Djokovic had a dry season where he has not yet won a title despite playing in two tournaments. While the Serbian was knocked out of the 2024 Australian Open after a defeat to Jannik Sinner in the semifinal, Djokovic could not even reach the quarterfinals at the 2024 Indian Wells Open.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion then pulled out of the 2024 Miami Open citing seeking a balance between personal and professional life. Djokovic then shocked his fans by announcing his separation with Ivanisevic who he onboarded six years ago.
Novak Djokovic and Goran Ivanisevic achieved success like no one else
Novak Djokovic and Goran Ivanisevic achieved enormous success together. The pair won as many as 12 Grand Slam titles while also making several finals. Djokovic talked about all of this in his social media post.
Apart from the 12 major titles, Djokovic also achieved the year-end no. 1 ranking for a record eighth time last year. The Serbian also won his seventh ATP Finals title last year and reached the helm with the most number of titles in the year-end championships.
Djokovic won several Masters titles and added a total of thirty titles between 2018 and 2023 with the most number of titles (7) coming last year when the Serbian won three of the four Grand Slam tournaments. However, Djokovic has failed to carry the momentum into the new season as he is yet to land his first title.
Amid a dry start to the season, Djokovic has decided to part ways with his long-time coach. It is to be seen who replaces the Croatian who was also named the ATP Coach of the Year once.
