Novak Djokovic has reached the Serbian camp for the 2023 Davis Cup ahead of the much-awaited Finals Group stage following his triumvirate in the 2023 US Open. Upon his arrival, he was received with a special welcome from the tournament director, Feliciano Lopez, who embraced Novak as soon as he spotted the 24-time Grand Slam title winner. A video of the same was posted on the official social media handle of the Davis Cup.
The Davis Cup is largely recognized by the world of tennis as the World Cup of the sport. Players represent their respective national teams and take part in the tournament in order to take on each other, and the nation as a whole wins the tournament. The USA has won the tournament a record 32 times, which is the most by any other team.
Novak Djokovic’s Serbia has been in the World Group 23 times. Out of that, they have won the Davis Cup once in 2010 and been runners-up once in 2013. They do not have a strong contingent like the USA, Canada, or Spain, and they are led by Novak Djokovic as the sole frontrunner, which is the reason for their comparatively low success in the tournament.
The 36-year-old is the captain of the Serbian team in the Davis Cup. Thus, despite being tired after his winning campaign in the 2023 US Open, he did not take any rest and joined the rest of the team as soon as possible. This shows his dedication to the sport and his national team.
Novak Djokovic expresses his sorrow on Carlos Alcaraz pulling out of the 2023 Davis Cup

Carlos Alcaraz has recently announced that he will not be taking part in the 2023 Davis Cup as he wants to focus on the individual tournaments. This decision was obviously manipulated by his disappointing defeat to Daniil Medvedev in the 2023 US Open semifinal, which eliminated him from the tournament.
Novak Djokovic, a major rival of Carlos Alcaraz on the court, expressed his sorrow about the youngster pulling out of the tournament, as he respects the Spaniard a lot. “The truth is that I expected to play against Carlos here in Valencia. He is a player whom I respect a lot, and whenever I have measured up against him, those matches have been very tough,“ he said.
