Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic is currently in the midst of an intense campaign at the US Open, vying for his third Grand Slam title of the year. As anticipation builds for his upcoming semi-final showdown against the local sensation Ben Shelton on Friday, there is also significant buzz surrounding an exciting all-stars exhibition match leading up to the Ryder’s Cup.
The Ryder Cup is getting ready for a unique all-stars event where sports legends and stars from different fields will come together for a fun-filled weekend of golf. Novak Djokovic will be joined by other big names like former football stars Gareth Bale and Andriy Shevchenko, as well as Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz Jr., as they take on the challenge of putting the ball in the hole.
With the Ryder Cup scheduled to kick off on September 29th, the all-stars game is slated for September 27th at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club. Novak expressed his excitement about the opportunity, stating, “I can’t wait to tee it up in Rome and experience the incredible atmosphere of a Ryder Cup, which has become legendary.”
Novak Djokovic’s legacy at the US Open
While Novak Djokovic is often hailed as the king of the grass courts, his career at Flushing Meadows has been marked by remarkable consistency but also a few instances of unfortunate outcomes. Djokovic has now reached the semi-finals of the US Open for an astounding 13th time, surpassing Roger Federer‘s record of 46 Grand Slam semi-final appearances.
Despite his initial confidence, Djokovic has claimed victory at the US Open only three times, reflecting a mixed history in the competition.
Novak Djokovic secured his US Open titles in 2011, 2015, and 2018, and it’s been a lengthy five-year wait for another championship in New York, marking his longest drought since his initial victory. Even though his rival Federer has predicted a fourth title for him this year, it will be intriguing to observe how well Djokovic’s body holds up against the fast and talented Spaniard, Carlos Alcaraz.
