Lionel Messi came to the rescue of Inter Miami once again as he scored an equalizer in the final moments of their match against the LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer. Thanks to his goal, Miami drew the match 1-1 and with this crucial point, they are now at the top of the Eastern Conference points table with four points in two matches. Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic was present in the stands of the Dignity Health Sports Park where the match was played, alongside his son Stefan, to watch Lionel Messi play.
Djokovic recently traveled to Los Angeles to start his preparations for the 2024 Indian Wells, and he did not miss this opportunity to watch Messi live. Both son and father were decked out in Lacoste.
Novak Djokovic is returning to the venue this season after five years. He last played in the tournament in 2019. He is the joint most successful player in the history of Indian Wells alongside Roger Federer. Both players have won the tournament a total of five times each. Nole will try to redeem himself after losing in the semifinal of the 2024 Australian Open against Jannik Sinner by winning the Indian Wells.
As far as Inter Miami is concerned, this was their second match of the 2024 season, and they registered a sensational victory before this against Real Salt Lake. Robert Taylor and Diego Gomez’s goals helped them win the match 2-0 without any struggle. They will now take on Orlando City on 3rd March in their next match.
The Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba link does wonders for Inter Miami once again
Inter Miami has filled their ranks with some of Lionel Messi’s ex-colleagues from FC Barcelona this season to make him feel more at home. Among their latest signings, Jordi Alba has proven to be the most effective, as the old understanding and link between the Argentine playmaker and the Spanish left-back are doing wonders for the MLS side as well.
It was the same Messi-Alba magic that effectively created the last-minute equalizer for Inter Miami. The LA Galaxy’s Dejan Joveljic gave them the lead against Miami. However, moments later, Marco Delgado received a red card, and it gave Miami a momentary advantage, which they capitalized on successfully.
Inter Miami have a really good chance of winning the MLS this season for the first time ever. Lionel Messi is the most important player for their project right now and thus it is a smart move that they are making a team around him.
