Novak Djokovic has made it to his 10th US Open final by beating the young Ben Shelton in the semi-finals of the US Open. In the post-match interview, the Serbian pro eased down the speculations about his retirement and said a few words that brought laughter to the tennis universe.
36-year-old Novak has been ruling the tennis world for a long time and has beaten many records in that time. He took to the press amidst the swirling speculations about his retirement. In his own way, he laid all the conjectures to rest.“ Age is just a number. That phrase is really resonating with me at the moment. I don’t want to even consider leaving tennis or thinking about an end if I’m still at the top of the game,” said Nole.
The only way Novak will consider leaving tennis according to him is when he starts getting his “ a** kicked by younger players in Grand Slams in years to come at the early stages of the tournament.” Until then, Novak considers age as just a number and is laser focused to create milestones by winning his 4th US Open title.
Novak Djokovic not even considering retirement
Previously, the 36-year-old has said that he might retire in years to come, but now he has backtracked with his recent comments.“I always believe in myself, in my own capabilities as a tennis player and to be able to deliver when it matters,” said the confident Serb. His cheeky comments expressed his idiosyncratic confidence and validation of his professional prowess.
As of now, Novak is all set to set the final stage of the US Open on fire with his sensational tennis. He will be facing Russia’s Daniil Medvedev, who is full of confidence from his commanding performance against Carlos Alcaraz. The tennis community was awaiting a Carlos-Djokovic final but instead got an even better US Open rematch. No matter what happens, Djokovic has already proven that he is going very strong even at the age of 36 and looks to create more milestones as long as he plays.
