Tennis player Milos Raonic recently made the startling admission that Novak Djokovic had a great desire to win his 23rd Grand Slam title in the French Open, which is traditionally regarded as Rafael Nadals domain.

Furthermore, fellow tennis player Raonic asserted that Djokovic made a deliberate effort to unseat Nadal at Roland Garros, where the Spaniard has been nearly invincible for the entirety of his career. These statements reveal Djokovic’s tremendously ambitious and competitive mindset and the extent to which he will go in order to maintain his position among the greatest tennis players.

Raonic, who is renowned for his strong serves and thunderous groundstrokes, provided fascinating insights into Djokovic’s thinking. He said, “That Roland-Garros semi-final against Alcaraz was a lot more meaningful. I didn’t see a way Novak would lose that match.”

Continuing his train of thought, he further added, “He’s too competitive and also I think he really wanted to have that number 23 on clay at Rafa’s event historically. There were enough of those things that anybody as great as Novak you can say you don’t look at those narratives but I think you use those narratives to motivate you.”

It is generally known that Djokovic admires Nadal’s skill on clay courts and that the Serbian has frequently acknowledged the Spaniard’s mastery there. Raonic’s remarks, however, imply that Djokovic regarded it as a chance to establish his own legacy and demonstrate that he could dominate any court, even one that was controlled by his arch-rival.
