Former Spanish tennis player Alex Corretja delighted his fans by appearing in a Eurosport interview where he spoke deeply about the current tennis generation and the players.
However, one part of the interview that caught the eyes of tennis enthusiasts was about Novak Djokovic and how the Spaniard believes that the 36-year-old may not be able to reach the achievement of a Golden Slam.
Serbian sensation Novak Djokovic had set his eyes on a Golden Slam in the upcoming year, but Corretja believes otherwise merely due to the Serbian’s age. He states that with the increase in age, recovery becomes difficult in the end.
Corretja further added that even with the improvement in skill, it is only going to get tougher for the World No. 1 to continue winning Grand Slams like he is doing now.
I'm sure that he's going to keep on winning Slams, but it's going to be tougher and tougher and he knows that.Said the Spaniard on Eurosports.
Djokovic has been on top of his game this year, only missing a Calendar Slam by a match point. However, the Spanish coach believes that 2024 will also bring in many more talented players that may pose a serious threat to Djokovic and his title wins.
While Corretja believes that Nole will continue winning Slams as of now, he predicts that the journey from now on will be an uphill task.
Alex Corretja believes that Djokovic’s Davis Cup loss was much needed for the Serbian to bounce back stronger
The Spanish tennis legend recently appeared on Eurosports and gave his thoughts on Novak Djokovic in the upcoming season of tennis. While Corretja spoke about the possibility of Djokovic not winning a Golden Slam, he also spoke about the importance of his loss against Sinner in the Davis Cup.
Just when the Serb was on a winning streak after clinching another ATP title, he suffered back-to-back losses against Jannik Sinner in the Davis Cup, which saw his country out of the race for the cup.
However, Corretja believes that this loss was much needed for World No. 1. He reckons that this was a wake-up call for the 36-year-old to pull up his socks and not take things lightly, as the players right behind him are hungry for wins and will pounce on any opportunity presented in front of them.
It's a wake-up call to say, ‘Okay, I'm doing unbelievably, but I can't relax for one second because some of the guys behind me are going to push me so much. They're very dangerous and they know they can beat me now.Believes the former tennis player
While setbacks are tough, the fans will be eager to witness the World No. 1 bounce back.
