The hunt for Grand Slam number 24 and Wimbledon number 8 continues as Novak Djokovic clinches yet another win on the Centre Court. Up against Andrey Rublev, Nole had to fight hard but he came out on top as he clinched a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-3 win to enter the semi-finals at the Wimbledon 2023.
Djokovic had warned Rublev and made it come true as he the Russian continues his wait for the maiden Grand Slam semi-final. Rublev had a good chance in the third set but squandered the breakpoints, a mistake Djokovic didn’t do. The duo played an extended game in the third set that needed six deuces before Djokovic won the game to clinch the set.
The win over Rublev takes Djokovic ahead in their head-to-head with a lead of 4-1. Nole is now also undefeated against a Top-10 opponent at Wimbledon since losing the 2013 finals to Andy Murray. He is now 8-0 against Top-10 opponents at the prestigious Grand Slam. Djokovic has now not lost a single grass-court match since he lost to Marin Cilic in the finals of the 2018 Queen’s Club Championships.

Jannik Sinner awaits in the semi-final

Awaiting in the semi-finals is Italian No. 1 Jannik Sinner. The eighth seed was up against surprise quarter-finalist Roman Safiullin on the No. 1 Court. The Italian went on to win the match 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in a match that lasted 2 hours and 14 minutes.
The win made Sinner the youngest man since 2007 to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals. Although that record is under threat from tomorrow’s quarter-final between Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune, something even Sinner found funny.
As far as the clash with Djokovic goes, Sinner will be on tight ropes. He lost to the Serb in last year’s Wimbledon quarter-finals despite winning the first two sets. Djokovic is slowly scrubbing Roger Federer‘s name to inscribe his name as the ‘King of Wimbledon’ and Sinner is yet another hurdle that the 23-time Major winner will look to overcome in the semi-finals.
