It has been two decades worth of intense rivalry between two of the most dominant players in the history of tennis. Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have been donning the sport in every single probable tennis street for the last twenty years, and still to this date, even at the end of their careers, they share the same heat.
While Nadal’s racquet has not been in the spotlight for about a year due to injuries, some of his old comments are still making all the noise on multiple social media platforms, especially X (also known as Twitter).
Due to this, the Spaniard has been receiving some hate from tennis fans as well. Recently, an old comment by Nadal has been making all the rounds on the internet, eliciting a plethora of reactions online.
In what seems like a slight jibe at Novak Djokovic’s aggression on the court, the Spaniard talked about moral values and how he was not raised to vent out the aggression on his racquet, unlike many of his rivals.
Nadal stated that he wasn’t brought up by his uncle, Toni Nadal, in that manner and also revealed how he never let his anger out on the racquet. Furthermore, as per the tennis icon himself, his family never really allowed him to disrespect the racquet while playing a match, as the most important thing for them was teaching him the right values and morals in life.
Nadal said:
My uncle, my family never allowed me to break a racquet or say bad words or give up a match. The most important thing for them was not winning or losing, but teaching me the right values.
How did the fans react to Nadal’s old comments?
While Rafael Nadal continues to talk about having the right values, tennis fans on Twitter spread hateful comments about the Spaniard. Many fans are accusing him of being too concerned with Djokovic despite approaching the near end of his career and not being in action for close to a year.
Some fans even took a dig at him for not coming fit for the last ten months, stating that he is fearful to face Djokovic.
Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here’s what fans have to say:
That’s not all; some even brought up the past stories of him being accused of doping at the French Open, linking it to his moral values comment. While the fans were furious with the statement made by Nadal on racquets, the citizens on Twitter started honoring him with special titles such as the ‘GOAT of values” for having not broken any racquets.
