After the huge win, an overwhelmed Musetti said, “I am struggling not to cry, It is an emotional win because it was a really long match. Three-hour match and was suspended by rain. It was not easy condition because it was a little bit windy and cold. Not like we used to play in the recent days. I am really proud of myself and I can see on the screen. Italian 21-year-old Lorenzo Musetti clearly showed that he is a future top player as he overcame the Serbian for the first time in his 4th attempt. Their first encounter in the French Open 2021 was an instant epic where the Italian led 2 sets up during the eventual withdrawal in the fifth set. The final score was 6-7(7-9), 6-7(2-7), 6-1, 6-0, 4-0 (retired).

Djokovic really struggled during the whole match since hit only one ace after hitting 6 double faults. Musetti capitalized on this and he looked in great touch from the second set. Musetti came to this match after double bageling his second-round opponent Luca Nardi while Djokovic struggled to get past his previous-round opponent, especially in the first set. The final score in Djokovic’s second-round win (after getting a first-round bye) against Ivan Gakhov was 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.

During the wet and rainy conditions at Monte Carlo, the Italian looked sharp against a wounded Djokovic in all senses. The clinical Italian hit 28 winners against just 6 unforced errors while hitting 6 aces without a single double fault. He will now try his chances against compatriot seventh seed Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals.
