Former World No. 31, Sergiy Stakhovsky is currently fighting for his homeland Ukraine against the Russian invasion attempt that has been going on for more than four months starting from the 24th of February 2022. Sergiy had announced his formal retirement in January of this year but the War resulted in him joining the army to fight for his country. Sergiy is joined by his compatriot and former Pro Alexandr Dolgopolov who also enlisted into the forces as the war broke out.
The two former players have been very active on social media platforms to make people realise the destruction and havoc caused by the Russian troops and have been rallying support for imposing restrictions on Russia and its citizens in all and any ways possible for the actions and atrocities caused by the invaders. The two former Pro’s have been strong advocates of Wimbledon’s ban on Russian and Belarusian players and have asked other tournaments to also follow the rule but they haven’t found much support other than the major in the UK.
