World No.7 Ons Jabeur has revealed that Novak Djokovic‘s knowledge and concern for his colleagues was a big motivator for her to join the PTPA. Earlier this year, eight new players were announced to be a part of the new player executive committee. Among these eight players was Ons Jabeur.

The Professional Tennis Players Association was co-founded by Novak Djokovic and Vasek Pospisil. The organization was founded in 2019 by the duo in an attempt to provide a greater degree of autonomy to the players. The PTPA was the first player-only organization since 1972. This association was founded in an attempt to provide more protection to player interests. The aim of the organization is to eliminate the shortcomings of the Association of Tennis Professionals(ATP).

Earlier this year, the Tunisian ace was named one of eight members of the player executive committee of the PTPA. She was joined by Paula Badosa, Hubert Hurkacz, John Isner, Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Zheng Saisai, along with the founders. However, she revealed the major reason behind her decision to join the player-only committee.

The Tunisian also revealed that they were making process and were making little changes for good in the sport. She admitted that the main aim was to really protect all players and not only the top ones. Jabeur established that the organization would like to help out as many players as possible.

Jabeur revealed that her love for the sport was another major reason for her joining the PTPA. She emphasized that the sport must be open to giving more opportunities to players who want to break into the tour.

When Novak and Vasek talked to me and explained to me what the PTPA does, I was kind of new, I was just getting into meetings, learning new stuff, and I feel like I learnt so many things about tennis that I didn't even know before. 

Jabeur also emphasized that this learning opportunity instilled so much more confidence in her. With her learning the inner workings of the sport, the Tunisian believed that this knowledge helped her deal with situations better.
