Tunisian tennis ace Ons Jabeur has established herself as an icon on the WTA Tour. She is an inspiration to many young players. Although the Tunisian has achieved so much in her career, managing her personal and professional life is a challenge for the former World No. 2.
As Jabeur has been married for over nine years now, the Tunisian is thinking about having kids but there are challenges.
Jabeur has talked about the difficulties she faces while planning for a kid. The 29-year-old says that although she and her husband Karim Kamoun are so fond of kids and want to have their own, the couple is facing problems with how to plan it. Jabeur says that she is unable to decide on the right time to have kids.
In a podcast named Abtal, Jabeur was asked when is she planning to have kids. The Tunisian talked about it in length. Jabeur said that she always thinks about stopping and then coming back. However, it has been difficult for her to plan things.
It is very difficult. We are both crazy about kids and want to have our own. It is never the right time; it's like I am playing good now, and I cannot stop. For me, the goal was always to stop and come back. The last couple of years it was tricky because I could not stop because I felt I was at my best level and it would be kind of stupid to stop. So, we will see how it goes.Ons Jabuer said.
Ons Jabeur wants to set an example for the up-and-rising female tennis players
With so many tennis mothers already inspiring the next generation, Ons Jabeur also wants to set a precedent for the upcoming generation of women’s tennis players. The Tunisian says that she will have kids and then come back to the tour to compete to show that it is possible.
As per the tennis professional herself, it is a personal goal for her to show that she can do it. She wants to show it to the Arab community who assumed that she would become a housewife after getting married and that it is possible to have kids and still pursue your passion.
I definitely want to have a kid and come back for sure. That's also one of the things that I wanna show that it is possible. For me, it is more personal to show it to the Arab community that it's possible because when I got married they said I am going to leave tennis, stay at home and be a house wife.Ons Jabuer said.
Notably, many tennis players like Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka, and Caroline Wozniacki have taken breaks for the birth of their child. They then came back to the tour and competed with the same intensity. Jabeur aspires to do the same.
