New rules and changes in any sport always have two sides. With Wimbledon set to take place the next month (from July 3 to July 16, 2023), there is a new rule that has been introduced, eliciting a plethora of different reactions from prominent players and tennis fans.

The traditional all-whites at Wimbledon will see a slight change this time around, with the women’s players being allowed to wear dark-colored undershorts under their whites. One of the prominent faces in today’s tennis world, Ons Jabeur, has her take on the new rule change.

The rule change has come into existence so that the women players are not nervous about their period stains being visible through the whites. Many also used to miss their periods intentionally to avoid embarrassment on the court. The dark shorts will make them more comfortable, as nothing will be visible. However, World No. 6 Jabeur is a little skeptical about this rule.

This is what she had to say in her interview before the Eastbourne event, “There is two things. One thing, it’s better definitely not to be paranoid. And the other thing, everybody will know that you have your period. So I’m not sure which part of it is good. I think I don’t think I’m going to wear anything.

Continuing her train of thought, she further added, “If all the girls will wear it, I think it will make it better. But I think it’s a great thing that Wimbledon is trying to help women feel more comfortable on the court.”

Furthermore, she expressed her concerns about the periods of players becoming public news and even lauded Wimbledon for making women players more comfortable during their menstruation. With that being said, It will be pretty interesting to see how other players react to the new rule.

Jabeur is not off to an ideal start on the grass

After her loss to Beatriz Hadad Maia in the quarterfinals at the French Open, the next challenge for the Tunisian was to adapt to the grass. It’s not easy to shift from the slow and bouncy clay to the skiddy and low grass. Jabeur did show signs of discomfort as she lost her first match on the grass to world no. 120 Jule Niemeier in straight sets. The German blew Jabeur away, 7-6, 6-4.

She will look to turn the tables as she now takes part in the Eastbourne Championships. The Tunisian tennis player is the fourth seed and will take on Marketa Vondrousova in the first round. Jabeur was a finalist at Wimbledon last year and would look to regain that golden form as soon as possible. Her aim would be to go one step further and lift the trophy. Can she do it and create national history?
