World No.1 Iga Swiatek just keeps better with each passing day. She won the 8th title of the season after beating Donna Vekic in the final of the 2022 San Diego Open in three sets 6-3,3-6,6-0. This was her 4th WTA 1000 title of the year in addition to the two major titles she has won. She now has more than 10000 points in the WTA Rankings and can even sit comfortably at the top for a few more months without playing a match.
Swiatek has lost just 8 matches throughout the year and has won 64. She is having the best WTA season since Serena Williams‘ 2013 season where she won 11 titles. Swiatek will now directly compete at WTA Finals to end her season where she will once again start as the favorite.
This year, she won the Qatar Open and followed it up by completing the Golden Swing- winning at Indian Wells and Miami. On clay, she won in Stuttgart and Rome before winning the French Open. She then went on to win her third major title in New York and also reached the final of the Ostrava Open before winning the San Diego Open.
In the final against Vekic, she had a good start but lost momentum in the second set. She gathered herself and produced one of the most dominant sets in the tournament as she bageled Vekic to victory. This was the 21st time this season that Swiatek bageled her opponent.

Swiatek was lauded on social media for yet another dominant week on the WTA Tour. The level of consistency she’s showing hasn’t been produced by anyone in the last few years on the women’s tour and fans can’t stop praising her for that.
