The Pan Pacific Open 2022 will be the 37th edition of the tournament and it will mark the return of the event on the WTA Tour for the first time since 2019 as the Covid-19 Pandemic kept the event suspended from the Tour. The event will be played at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo with the tournament being in the WTA-500 category.

Top-seed Paula Badosa opens the draw with a first-round bye and is likely to take on Qinwen Zheng who starts off against local girl Misaki Doi. Qiang Wang takes on Elise Mertens with the winner taking on the winning American from the match between Claire Liu and Alison Riske-Amritraj.
4th seeded Veronika Kudermetova also gets a bye in the first round and will take on the winner of the match between Sofia Kenin and Fernanda Contreras Gomez. Local girl Naomi Osaka takes on Daria Saville to start her title defence while 5th seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia also meets a Japanese in the form of Yuki Naito.

Bottom Half
8th seeded Elena Rybakina will take on Liudmila Samsonova with the winner taking on the victorious player from the match between Xinyu Wang and Ellen Perez. Xiaodi Yu locks horns with Despina Papamichail and the winner will be gifted a meeting with 3rd seeded Garbina Muguruza who has a first-round bye.
6th seeded Karolina Pliskova starts against Isabella Shinikova with the Czech likely to take on Petra Martic who takes on local girl Rina Saigo. Mai Hontama and Shuai Zhang will lock horns to advance to the second round and take on 2nd seeded Caroline Garcia who also has a bye in the first round.

Badosa and Haddad Maia are yet to clash on the Tour yet and both have showed their prowess on the hardcourts ensuring that it will be a mouth-watering clash if they meet in the semis. Rybakina has however won both her meetings with Garcia and will eye her third win over the in-form Frenchwoman

Final
Garica and Haddad Maia are yet to meet and this fact will only add to the excitement as the two players have been in brilliant form since the second half of the season began and both will come looking for their first WTA-500 title this season in singles.
