Greek tennis star Maria Sakkari will be up against the second-seeded Jessica Pegula in a semifinal clash at the 2023 Japan Open. It is going to be a great battle between two of the top stars of the tournament. Sakkari has beaten the likes of Misaki Doi and the fifth-seeded Caroline Garcia.
Pegula, on the other hand, has also looked really sound and solid en route to the semis, beating the likes of Cristina Bucsa and sixth-seeded Daria Kasatkina to set up a great semi-final with Sakkari.

Fourth seed Maria Sakkari did not have the right results up until the recently played Guadalajara Open. She made it to the semi-finals and finals for most of the tournament but failed considerably in the crucial matches. Other than that she also made it to the semi-finals of the Miami Open, Dubai Tennis Championships, Charleston Open, and Citi Open with her first title this year coming at the Canadian Open.
At the ongoing Tokyo Open, Pegula beat Cristina Bucsa in the first-round encounter by 6-1, 6-2 and then went on to beat sixth-seeded Daria Kasatkina by a scoreline of 6-1, 6-0 taking herself just two places away from the silverware.
