The Big Three of tennis, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic have revolutionized tennis throughout their careers, sharing 66 Grand Slam titles between them. While many call them a fortune to the tennis world, ATP legend Paolo Lorenzi thinks otherwise.
The former Italian player stated that because of the level of the big three, there is now a hunt in search of their heirs, and a possible next generation big three. With the domination of the three players, many other players like Andy Murray and David Ferrer often reached the semi-finals of the tournament and usually lost as they faced an uphill battle against the Big Three.
The strong young players were probably there before, but not enough to put those three in difficulty. Now we enjoy the results of some young people more.Lorenzi during his talk with the Tennis Talk broadcast
Now, Carlos Alcaraz, and Jannik Sinner are two of the players who are reaching up to the Big Three, and making themselves extremely deadly in the sport. Both these players are now contributing to winning many titles and posing a challenge to the others, like how the feared trio have done for a long time.
Although there might be no replacement for the talent and skill of the big three, Roger Federer has retired, Nadal is struggling with his injury concerns, and Djokovic, who is the best player on the circuit currently, is starting to lose more often. Soon the world might witness a replacement of the Big Three in the form of the next gen.
