Hubert Hurkacz has had a roller coaster in 2022 so far.  He started his season by competing in the Australian Open, but the opponent he has to face here in the first round, Adrian Mannarino defeated him in the second round. He then competed in the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships where he finished as runner-up after losing to Russian World No.8 Andrey Rublev.

The Polish star was again defeated by Rublev in the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells but bounced back well by shocking the Former US Open champion Daniil Medvedev in the Miami Open quarterfinals. Here also, he had to finish as the runner-up behind the Spanish World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz. However, he and American John Isner won the men’s doubles title at the same competition.

He reached the quarter-finals in Monte Carlo before failing to the Bulgarian World No.32 Grigor Dimitrov. Then in the French Open, he lost to the eventual finalist Casper Ruud in the fourth round. He was able to win the Halle Open later in the season, the only title he has clinched so far this season.

After that, he lost in the first and second rounds of the Wimbledon and Washington Open competitions, respectively. In the Canada Open, he took revenge on Casper Ruud followed by defeating Nick Kyrgios before losing to Pablo Carreno Busta in the Final. He was eliminated in the second round of the US Open. He advanced to the quarterfinals of the European Cup and Astana Open, but fell to Stefanos Tsitsipas and Dominic Thiem, respectively, on both occasions. The last tournament he played was ATP-500 Vienna open where he lost in the quarter-final to Croatian World No.27 Borna Coric.

Adrian Mannarino had a poor showing in 2021, continuing a trend earlier this season in Melbourne and Sydney. The French star was seen at the ATP Melbourne Summer Set tournament at the start of the season where he played against Botic Van De Zandschulp in the opening round but lost the match with a score of 4-6, 3-6. After this, he participated in the ATP Sydney Tennis Classic tournament where he again lost the round of 32 to Maxime Cressy with a score of 3-6, 5-7.

At the Australian Open, he faced Rafael Nadal in the fourth round and fought hard in the first set, which went to a tie-breaker but eventually lost the match. He then played in the Open Sud de France, where he lost to Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals. Mannarino put in a strong showing in the Dallas Open, defeating Yoshihito Nishioka in straight sets 6-3 6-1 to go to the quarter-finals.

He had a rather worse run in the other slams where he was able to get only one win, which was in Wimbledon. He lost in Round 1 in both French Open and US open. The last tournament he played was Basel Open where he lost in Round 1 again to the Dutch World No.35 Botic van de Zandschulp.

Hurcakz has a win-loss record of 40-20 this season with a sole ATP title at Halle Open(Grass). Mannarino has exactly a 50% winning percentage out of 62 matches he played this season with one ATP title at the Winston-Salem(Hard).

These two have faced off twice before with one win a piece. Mariano won the latest match in the Australian Open 2022 in straight sets. Both players are not in their best form at this point but expect this to be a tight contest.

Prediction: Hurkacz is to win in two tight sets.
