World No.3 Daniil Medvedev begins his pursuit towards winning a title twice for the first time in his career, at the Paris Masters, with a second-round clash against Grigor Dimitrov on Wednesday in Accor Arena, Paris. The Russian no.1 won the 2020 edition of the tournament defeating Alexander Zverev in 3 sets. The 2021 US Open champion received a first-round bye owing to his top-8 seeding.

On the other hand, Dimitrov is starting to find his best form in patches as he continues his decent 2023 season. Earlier this year, at the Geneva Open, the Bulgarian reached a tour-level final for the first time since 2018. The 32-year-old returned to the top 20 of ATP rankings after a round of 16 finish at the Wimbledon.

The pair have faced off 8 times with Medvedev dominating the head-to-head 6-2. The duo have crossed each other’s path twice this year already. Their most recent encounter came at last week’s ATP 500 Vienna Open. Medvedev won the second-round clash in 3 sets where Dimitrov showed flashes of his best self.

Medvedev has a stunning year win-loss record of 64-15 this year. The World No.3 has already qualified for the ATP Finals to be played in Turin, Italy. He has previously won the tournament, in 2020. Earlier, Medvedev had mentioned that if he had got the better of Novak Djokovic in the final of 2023 US Open, this would have been his best-ever season so far.

Meanwhile, Grigor Dimitrov began his campaign in Paris on a strong note as he had a relatively comfortable against Italian pro Lorenzo Musetti in the first round, earlier today. The former World No.3 defeated Musetti 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-3 to book a spot in the second round. At the Shanghai Masters, earlier this month, he defeated World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz in the round of 16 to reach the quarter-final of a Masters tournament for just the 2nd time in his career. The World No.17 has a decent year win-loss record of 37-20.

Daniil Medvedev vs Grigor Dimitrov : Match Prediction

Medvedev boasts of an impressive 3-0 record against Dimitrov on the indoor courts. The Russian has also been in formidable form on the hard courts this season as he leads the tour with 48 wins on the surface so far. While both players are great on serve, Medvedev is slightly better on the receiving side. The 3rd seed also displays better consistency on his groundstrokes as compared to Dimitrov.
