There has been heated tension between Holger Rune‘s mother, Aneke, and Patrick Mouratoglou after his son lost in the very first round of the ongoing US Open. There have been huge clashes of egos between the two, along with long-time coach Lars Christensen, who has worked with Holger since he was six years old. Now that both Patrick and Lars have broken their partnership with Holger, Patrick has released a farewell message for Holger, which is more of a statement than a goodbye post.
For context, Patrick posted his final greetings for the Dane after their separation. However, interestingly, rather than wishing his students the best for the future and advising them with tips for the coming days, he focused on the titles and the accolades they achieved together. He highlighted the fact that Holger Rune was the World No. 30 when he partnered with him and thereby now stands at No. 4, which really brought out the arrogant nature of the French coach.
Patrick wrote on Twitter, “What a ride @holgerrune2003! In 9 months, winning Paris, playing final of Monte Carlo and Rome, winning Stockholm and Munich…. From 30 to no4 ATP. Unfortunately, all the stories have to come to an end. I took the utmost pleasure with you and I will always be your supporter. All @mouratoglouacademy stays behind you. Good luck my friend.”
How much did Holger Rune and Patrick Mouratoglou achieve together?
Holger Rune and Patrick Mouratoglou had partnered with each other for nine long months. The original contract was set at three months, which was further extended to six more months as Rune enjoyed the support and learning that he received from the Frenchman. Rune was a whole different player while he was training at the Mouratoglou Academy, with his gameplay and intensity peaking every time he stepped foot onto the court.
Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here’s what fans had to say on the Spaniard’s latest display of his soccer abilities:
They won a lot of titles together, with their biggest breakthrough coming at the 2022 Paris Masters, which also marked Rune’s first-ever Masters title, beating players like Stan Wawrinka, Hubert Hurkacz, Andrey Rublev, Carlos Alcaraz, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Novak Djokovic on course to the trophy. It was during their time together that Rune looked unplayable and enjoyed the most success in his short and illustrious career so far.
