Patrick Mouratoglou considers Novak Djokovic's chances for winning the French Open men's singles title trivial in the wake of young players arriving on the scene challenging him.

Superstar coach Patrick Mouratoglou does not believe Novak Djokovic will be a real threat to the Roland Garros this year. He based his opinions on the current form of the 22-time Grand Slam champion.

He could not play in the Sunshine Doubles because of a vaccination mandate in the USA. In the Monte-Carlo Masters, he was knocked out of the tournament by Lorenzo Musetti in the Round of 16 match. Also, he appeared for the match with a strap on his right hand, which has sparked rumors that he may be injured. In such circumstances, the Serbian will be in great danger of faltering before young players at the French Open.

Patrick Mouratoglou, hence, thinks that the Serb may not be able to win the French Open this season.

“I’m not worried about him. He did the same thing last year, he went through it in Monte-Carlo. I think it’s costing him these long periods without a match, when everyone else is confident. He’s just coming in, he doesn’t have a reference. And even in terms of motivation… I’m not in his pocket, I don’t know how he trains. But I know that when you know that you don’t have a tournament for two months, going to train every day is not easy,” Patrick Mouratoglou said in a recent interview.

The recovery is not easy. I have no doubt about his level of play in the Grand Slams. After that, the only danger is that the young players are progressing more and more. His current level of play is mainly the consequence of his absence in Indian Wells and Miami,” he continued.

The current World No.1 may have lost this match, but it is only the start of the long clay season. Many tournaments will be played before the culmination of the European clay swing culminates with the French Open.

There are immense doubts about the fitness of Rafael Nadal, who is still struggling with his injuries. His form is also not encouraging either. He has decided not to play in the Barcelona Open, hence, if the Spaniard arrives at Roland Garros not 100% fit, it will get a huge advantage to the rest of the competition, including Novak Djokovic, to win the much-coveted title.

As Patrick Mouratoglou said, Novak Djokovic is lacking match practice. If he does well in the Barcelona Open, Madrid Open and Italian Open, and can even win one or more titles on clay, he can come on top in the French Open.

As of injury concerns, he was able to win Australian Open 2023 men’s singles title carrying a hamstring injury. The media is still guessing whether he was really injured during the course of the competition or not. Tennis fans know one thing about Novak Djokovic, though, is that one can never discount him from any competition.
