The last thing you expect before a big event is the body not supporting you. All the preparation is put in. The skill sets are refined. Any small tactical errors are resolved. One does all this taking it for granted that the body will take care of itself. However, in sport nothing can be taken for granted
It’s an occupation of fine margins. As the saying goes, “You are just moments away from glory and also moments away from an injury”. Spanish pro Paula Badosa is going through just that sort of an unfortunate period. She is out of the 2023 French Open due to injury.
Paula Badosa hasn’t had luck go her way when it has come to Grand Slams this year. She missed the Australian Open in January and now she is out of the second Grand Slam of the year as well. As you advance in age you are not sure how many opportunities you are going to have to go into deep runs in slams. She is still 25 and has a lot left in front of her. However, she needs to make sure that she doesn’t go through these injury testing periods. The recent withdrawal is a result of a back injury at the Italian Open last week. A stress fracture in Badosa’s spine to be more specific.
Her tweet read, “Just days before the event, the Spaniard has put out an emotional tweet. She looks gutted to miss out on the second slam of the year. Just when everything seemed to be fine again, I received bad news just before starting a Grand Slam. At the tournament in Rome I suffered a stress fracture in my spine. It has been very hard news after such a difficult start of the season with injuries. This is going to keep me out of the competition for some weeks. Thanks to all of you who are with me no matter what. I’ll keep you updated. P.” Her pull-out has made many unhappy with the event also praying for her recovery.
What next for Paula Badosa?
A mixed season of injury pullouts, first-round exits and three runs to the quarters. This has been 2023 for Paula Badosa. She hasn’t really stamped her authority on the calendar. A lot of that has to do with her body not supporting her in key moments.
Missing two Grand Slams is never an ideal first half. In front of her lies Wimbledon. Post that she will meet an entire stretch of hard courts. Indoor and Outdoor.
However how many of these tournaments will she be able to take part in still is a mystery. She has been advised an 8 weeks rest. Wimbledon has a mighty huge question mark next to it. Things are crystal clear for Badosa now. The first thing she needs to check off is her fitness. She needs to try and recover. She needs to make sure something similar doesn’t come her way again.
