Emma Raducanu
Emma Raducanu is set to debut at the French Open this year. Until last year at the time of the French Open, she was an A-level player who rose to global fame after winning the US Open. Things have not been the same since the US Open title as she faced hurdles in the form of injuries, illness, form, and coaching changes.
Emma Raducanu came into the limelight with her win in straight sets 6-4 6-3 over Leylah Fernandez in the finals of the US Open. She won the grand slam at the age of 19. The 19-year-old, however, has not prevailed over challenges as the victory was followed by defeats in the very first match at the Indian Wells and Upper Austria Ladies Linz. Her current stats on WTA Tour is nine defeats and six wins.
Emma Raducanu changes third coach in a year
Things surely have not been the same. Most surprising out of all is Number of the coaches she has changed within a year. She has parted ways with three coaches already. Nigel Sears was the first one to part ways after her fourth-round stint at the Wimbledon. Followed by Andrew Richardson who left although having a successful triumph at the US Open. The German Torben Beltz is the latest one on the list who left a month ago. The change in coaching has been amused for fans however Emma seems to be confident with the change in coaching pattern.
“It might not work for anyone else and people might look at me like I’m crazy but I trust my own decision-making and my own beliefs of what I think is right for myself,” says Emma to WSJ magazine as she backs herself and believes on her decision making. The change in coaches have created storm and has managed to attract criticism however, Emma looks positive on her decision.
“That is definitely a journey [where] I’m learning on the way but it’s just what works for me as an individual,” as Emma speaks up on how she along with her dad believes that it is a wise decision to choose from the best and have vivid opinions rather than focusing and sticking with one person.
Right now she is training under Iain Bates and seems to be fully prepared for her debut. She even mentioned in her press about having specific changes in her routine in order to perform better. However, the decision to change coaches will still be under scanner in the coming days. She recently has also missed the Madrid Open due to injury which adds to the turmoil.
