“Physically, this is the best I’ve felt in years!” Andy Murray is hopeful about a good run at the US Open and shares an extremely positive update with his fans

Andy Murray is enjoying a great run at the US Open. He defeated American wildcard Emilio Nava, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1, 6-0, in the second round at the Flushing Meadows. The former World No. 1 appears to be in good shape after his struggles with a hip injury for the past couple of years. Murray had almost sealed the first set at 5-3 but the American fought back to break Murray’s serve twice. Nevertheless, Murray maintained his form through the next 3 sets.
Andy Murray won his first grand slam here at the US Open after defeating Novak Djokovic, 7–6, 7–5, 2–6, 3–6, 6–2 in a five-hour long match. This grand slam is certainly of big importance to Murray. Before the 2022 US Open, Andy Murray last played fellow Brit Cameron Norrie in the round of 32 at the Cincinnati Masters but lost 6-3, 3-6, 4-6. It wasn’t looking good until the start of the last grand slam of the year where Murray is playing some of his best tennis.
Hopefully, I can have a deep run here: Andy Murray on his chances at the US Open
In the post-match interview, the 3-time grand slam champion reflected back on the match. He said, “I think I started to take the ball on a little bit more, he was dictating a lot of the points. I started to hit the ball deeper and I think his level dropped a bit. But he’s a brilliant young player and he’s going to have a very bright future.”
He further said, “Physically this is the best I’ve felt in the past few years. My movement is by far the best it has been in a long time and it has obviously been a big part of my game. I feel like I’m getting closer to where I want to be. Hopefully, I can have a deep run here.”
Murray had a difficult first set but eased through the rest of the match, even bagelling Nava in the final set. After his retirement scare in 2019, the Scot is definitely the player to watch out for at this year’s US Open.
