Daniil Medvedev has established himself as one of the big names on the ATP Tour in the past couple of years. The Russian is considered to be a part of the top bracket which involves the likes of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. After his victory against Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals of the Adelaide Open, the former world number one revealed one big regret concerning Roger Federer.
Roger Federer called time on his professional tennis career last year, after playing his last competitive match at the Laver Cup in September. Daniil Medvedev has locked horns against the Swiss maestro a couple of times, however, he has always ended up on the losing side. The US Open 2021 champion regrets not playing against the 20-time Major champion after he broke into the top 10 rankings in 2019.
The last couple of Roger Federer’s tennis career were marred by injuries, which meant he was on the sidelines for extended periods of time. “Playing against Rafa and Novak is a privilege. I’m disappointed because when I started giving my best and got into the top 10, I couldn’t play against Federer again and I lost to him three times,” said Medvedev.

Daniil Medvedev has developed a great rivalry with the likes of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. The Russian stated that it was a great privilege to compete against the duo on the biggest stages. The 26-year-old wants to bring his A-game whenever he gets the opportunity to face two of the finest players in the history of the sport.
Daniil Medvedev has competed in four Major finals to date, with two each coming against Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Despite being on the losing side on three occasions, Medvedev claimed his first career Grand Slam title by defeating Novak Djokovic in the US Open 2021 finals.
“I still have the opportunity to play against Rafa and Novak, and every time I have this opportunity, I want to win. I want to try to give the best of myself. I had tough losses against both, but the only Grand Slam I won was against Novak, and that was awesome. I’m happy to play against them,” said Medvedev.
Daniil Medvedev will target a deep run at the Australian Open 2023, where he enters as one of the top contenders to lift the title. He has ended as the runner-up in both of the previous editions of the event, losing to Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal in the finals in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
