Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Sonego produced an incredible rally during their encounter in Montpellier.

Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner moved one step closer to his sixth tour-level title on Friday. Sinner defeated compatriot Lorenzo Sonego 6-4, 6-2 at the Open Sud de France after the one-hour, 34-minute encounter. Sinner brought out his top game to overpower his countryman.
During the match, both the Italians fought very well making the competition serious. But there was a moment that lit up the spectators at the court. Sinner and Sonego indulged in an entertaining rally that was filled with everything from excellent returns from the corners to tweener and running around the court.
In the second set, Sinner was leading Sonego 4-1. Then they produced an incredible rally. Sinner made Sonego cover every inch of the court with his incredible returns. Sonego employed a classy tweener in between too. But, Sinner won the point in the end. The rally got the opponents excited too with both of them shaking hands at the end and appreciating each other.

Sinner won the game eventually 6-4, 6-2. This was a major win for Sinner who had never been beyond the first round in his two previous appearances at the ATP 250. “I know him very well,” Sinner said about Sonego in the post-match conversation. “Playing Davis Cup together. He is a very nice person, very humble. We practiced together at the beginning of the tournament, so it was bad luck to play already in the quarter-finals but I am very happy to be here.”
Moving on, Sinner will face Arthur Fils in the semi-finals on Saturday. “I have seen him [Fils] play here at this tournament,” Sinner said about the Frenchman. “Fils is very strong physically already. He understands the game very well. He started off the year very well, so it is going to be an interesting match for sure.”
