‘Preferring Carlos Alcaraz over Novak Djokovic is disrespectful!’ Twitter calls French Open scheduling a joke after the defending champion gets snubbed off center court

Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic

The playing schedule for Day 8 of the 2022 French Open is out. The fourth-round matches for both Men’s and Women’s singles will commence but the scheduling is a little weird to start with. Because Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Carlos Alcaraz are all placed in the same half, they play their matches on the same day.

While Alcaraz may be the hottest thing in tennis right now, he definitely isn’t anywhere close to the GOATs- Nadal and Djokovic. Interestingly, for the fourth round, Nadal and Alcaraz have been scheduled to play their matches on Court Philippe Chatrier- the center court, Djokovic has been scheduled to play on Court Suzanne-Lenglen, the No.2 court.

Only 2 men’s matches can be played on Chatrier each day and according to the majority, it should’ve been Nadal and Djokovic instead of Alcaraz. It is not even the case where Djokovic is playing a lesser-known opponent or Alcaraz is playing someone big. Alcaraz plays Karen Khacanov while Djokovic plays Diego Schwartzman, a former semifinalist at Roland Garros and a player much better known than Khachanov.

Twitter slams French Open for putting Novak Djokovic on Lenglen

While there is no logical explanation for this decision, the only possible explanation is that they want the much anticipated Nadal-Djokovic quarterfinal to be played in the night session. If they’d have asked Djokovic to play in the night session on Sunday, chances of him getting a night match against Nadal would’ve diminished.

Having said that, prioritizing Alcaraz over Djokovic is very disrespectful for the World No.1 and the defending champion, and fans are calling out the French Open for the same.
