The title clash of the ATP 500 event between the Pole and American players is going to be a mouthwatering one as both the stars will put up a tough fight against each other. Swiatek is the defending champion in Doha reaching this year’s final after thrashing No.8 seed Veronika Kudermetova in Friday’s semifinals 6-0, 6-1.
The 21-year-old did not get a very good start to the season. In the Australian Open, she was ousted by Elena Rybakina in the fourth round. Earlier in the United Cup also, she was left in tears. In Doha, the three-time Grand Slam champion would like to turn things around and get back to the winning form of the last season.
Pegula, on the other hand, is looking confident to take on her rival who she defeated in the United Cup semifinals earlier in January. In Doha, her path to the final was tougher than Swiatek with Greek Maria Sakkari giving her a tough fight in the semifinals.
In the head-to-head Swiatek leads the chart 4-2 against Pegula but the latter’s victory in the United Cup has definitely boosted her confidence.
