Just hours after Chinese tennis star Qinwen Zheng achieved her absolute peak by winning the gold medal at the ongoing Asian Games, the tennis star announced her separation from her current coach. She made a mark by pointing out Wim Fissette‘s immoral behavior, as he broke the contract. For context, Fissette had been coaching her for a long time, but due to Zheng’s recent slump in form, Fissette decided to snub her and join the coaching team of Naomi Osaka.

Right after bagging the gold, Zheng made a remark about her ex-coach and how Fissette was responsible for her mental instability in the past. She stated at the press conference that Wim brought ‘harm’ to her family after breaking their contract.

Zheng further disclosed that, despite agreeing to break the contract with Wim on happy terms, she wasn’t quite willing to go off him.

She said. “He broke the contract, and it is very immoral. This is his choice, and I will respect that. Even though this brings some harm to me and my family, I don’t want to talk about that person right now, don’t want to talk about him.”

After having coached Osaka in the past between 2020 and 2022, where he helped her achieve two Grand Slam titles, he joined back with the Japanese star yet again in 2023.

Where does Qinwen Zheng go from here on?

Having not enjoyed the most of this year, Qinwen Zheng has literally shocked the tennis world by finally managing to get her hands on the gold medal at the Asian Games. Other than that, she also secured herself a place at the 2024 Paris Olympics with an impressive 6-2, 6-4 straight-sets win over her countrywoman Lin Zhu in the final.

Following the incredible win, Zheng talked about how big it was for both her and Zhu as they went on to achieve both the silver and gold medals. She said, “I’m really happy about that. That was not an easy match, today and also yesterday. The Chinese tennis professional further went on to talk about her participation in Paris Olympics 2024, where she has to go against bigger opponents from Europe and the US.

Continuing her train of thought, she further added, “All of them are good fighters. As you can see, there’s a lot of emotion on the court for both of us. I think Paris 2024 will be totally different because we will be facing opponents from Europe and the US, and so it will be a bigger challenge for us. We need to prepare ourselves better for that.”
