“Rafael Nadal acts like nothing matters” John McEnroe highlights the difference between Novak Djokovic and the Spaniard with respect to the most majors race

Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are back in the race for most Grand Slam titles after the Serbian won the 2022 Wimbledon Championships to win his 21st Grand Slam title and come in touching distance of Nadal who is currently occupying the first position with 22 majors to his name after having won the first two majors of the season this year.

After a fiery clash in the quarter-finals of the French Open this year, another showdown was expected at the Wimbledon with Nadal and Novak likely to meet in the finals. Nadal however had to hand a walkover prior to his semi-final match due to a tear in his abdomen and fans were robbed of a potential Djokovic-Nadal clash in a Grand Slam final. Maybe Nadal would have stopped Novak from winning Wimbledon and could have won his 23rd major or Djokovic’s 7th Wimbledon title would have been sweeter with the win over Rafa, in either case, it was an unfortunate scene.

“They are totally opposite approaches” John McEnroe on Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic

John McEnroe, former World No. 1 and 7-time Grand Slam champion, recently talked about the difference between Rafa and Novak when it comes to the approach to winning the Grand Slam titles, the only motivational factor for both of the tennis greats as they have admitted that the ranking does not bother them anymore.

“Well, they are totally opposite approaches. Djokovic talks openly about wanting to have the most [Grand Slam singles titles] and Nadal acts like nothing matters except going out and giving an effort every point and every match. It seems to have worked pretty well for both of them if you go by the history and how many Grand Slams they have won, so whatever makes you happy and whatever brings out the best in you is probably what you should do,” said McEnroe speaking with the BBC.
