Rafael Nadal is undoubtedly one of the greatest sportsmen of all time. There is no denying the legacy he has left in the sport of tennis over the past two decades or so. Hence, it comes as no surprise that he is among the most followed athletes worldwide due to his massive fan base.

The Spaniard has been sidelined due to injury for the past eight months now; however, he continues to shatter records outside the tennis courts. The 37-year-old became the first tennis player to reach 20 million followers on Instagram, just hours before Novak Djokovic claimed his 24th Grand Slam title.

Rafael Nadal is expected to return to action early next year, as 2024 could be his last year on the tour. The Spaniard has not officially announced his retirement, as he will make a final decision on how he keeps up during the course of the next season.

Rafael Nadal achieved another milestone, becoming the first tennis player, male or female, to reach 20 million followers on Instagram. Novak Djokovic currently has around 14 million followers on the same platform, as he has established himself as one of the greats in the sport as well.

Djokovic recently claimed his 24th Major title at the Flushing Meadows and his fourth US Open title. The 36-year-old completely outplayed Daniil Medvedev in the finals in straight sets, avenging his defeat on the same stage two years ago. The Serbian is now two Grand Slams clear of his rival, Rafael Nadal, who sits on 22 Major titles.

Rafael Nadal has not played much tennis over the course of the past 12 months due to recurrent injuries. He had to withdraw from the semifinals of Wimbledon 2022 and was forced to play the US Open last year with an injury. He suffered a hip injury during the second round of the 2023 Australian Open, which has kept him out of action for the past eight months.
