In the most disappointing turn of events, Rafael Nadal announced his withdrawal from the 2024 Australian Open. The Spaniard made his much-anticipated comeback last week at the Brisbane International after missing out on the entirety of the 2023 season due to a hip injury that he suffered in the 2023 Australian Open.
Tennis fans across the globe were hoping to see the 22-time Grand Slam winner perform at the 2024 Australian Open.

He was initially supposed to return directly to AO but his team later decided to take part in the Brisbane International to test his fitness ahead of the tournament. Nadal won the first two rounds in straight sets without any issues.
In his quarterfinal match against Jordan Thompson, the Spaniard won the first set but started struggling after that. As a result, Thompson came back from behind to win the match.
Nadal seemed to be in some discomfort after the match. He had an MRI scan to find out that he had a mico tear in his muscle. As a result, he has decided to withdraw from the 2024 Australian Open as he will not be able to be at his best in the tournament and he wants to make his comeback when he is absolutely in his best shape.
Right now I am not ready to compete at the maximum level of exigence in 5 sets matches. Therefore I am flying back to Spain to see my doctor, get some treatment and rest. I have worked very hard during the year for this comeback and as I always mentioned my goal is to be at my best level in 3 months.Rafael Nadal announced through an Instagram post.
