World No. 3 and 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal was named the Best Male Tennis player at the 2022 ESPY Awards held recently. The Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly (ESPY) Award is presented by ABC, the American broadcast TV network. ESPN also collaborated with ABC earlier but since 2017 it has all been ABC in recognising the individuals and teams for their achievements.
For the award, the performances of players were considered from the 2nd half of the 2021 season and the first half of the 2022 season. While Nadal was completely absent from the second half of 2021, the Spaniard had a brilliant 2022 season so far as he won the 2022 Australian Open and the 2022 French Open while also picking up Tour titles at the ATP-250 Melbourne Summer Set 1 and the 2022 Acapulco Open as he went 20-matches unbeaten before losing his first match of the season in the finals of the 2022 Indian Wells Masters.

Felix won his first ATP title on the Tour and helped Canada to the 2022 ATP Cup in January earning his nomination.
Alcott, a legend in wheelchair tennis, bid farewell to the sport with a runner-up finish in the 2022 Australian Open having won all 4 Grand Slam titles in 2021. Nadal’s win this year earned him his 3rd ESPY award having earlier won in 2011 and 2014.
