For the past couple of years, one of the most anticipated moments has been the return of Rafael Nadal. It was a monumental moment when the Spaniard stepped onto the court after a year away courtesy of his injuries.
It was after his first couple of wins in return that the internet was bombarded with predictions of Rafael Nadal being back in form and winning the Grand Slams.
He is now burdened with millions of expectations to win the Grand Slam. Recently, at a press conference, the former World No. 1 admitted to the constant expectations to perform and the added pressure that comes with it.
He reveals the ugly feeling that comes with people’s expectations and how he feels like a worker who has to deliver.
That feeling is ugly. It is taken for granted that you have to win. Suddenly, winning Monte Carlo is what you have to do. Not good. That makes you a worker who has to deliver. And suddenly it seems that winning Roland Garros is completing your work day.Said Rafael Nadal via El Pais press.
In his career so far, the Spaniard has an unbelievable record on the European Tour. From Italy to the French Open, the 37-year-old holds fabulous records, making him the ‘King of Clay’.
He has won 14 titles at the French Open, 11 at Monte-Carlo, and 10 at the Italian Open. With a historic record on clay courts, fans automatically expect a lot from the Mallorcan.
Rafael Nadal adds to the many complaints ATP received over tennis balls
Over the last year, ATP has received constant complaints from many players over the condition of the tennis balls and how they are turning out to be the cause of many injuries.
The tennis balls used at the Australian Open tend to fluff up after a series of hits, which becomes a struggle for the players.
Recently, Novak Djokovic suffered from a possible wrist injury, and many are blaming the ATP for the condition of the tennis balls, putting him and his Australian Open title at risk. Nadal also added to the list of complaints and spoke about the size of the balls.
He expressed the difficulty he faced while playing with the tennis balls. Rafa complains about the balls getting too big and becoming dead, which worsens the conditions.
The ATP has done nothing about the complaints as more and more players add to the list. Nonetheless, Nadal continues to be in the limelight, especially now that he has to give an update on his injury.
