Spanish World No.2 Rafael Nadal has shut down the reporters during the post-press conference after losing to Cameron Norrie in his first match of the United Cup. Even though Nadal tried to speak as calmly as possible, the frustration of getting the same “retirement” questions clearly pissed him off.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion quoted, “Every time that I am coming to a press conference, it seems I have to retire. When it’s time, I will let you know. Stop asking about retirement because I’m here to keep playing tennis.

Rafael Nadal looked in good touch against Norrie in the first set but the British World No.14 turned it around in the next two sets. This was the first win for Norrie against Nadal in 5 matches. Nadal will feature in mixed doubles with Paula Badosa for Spain against the British pair of Harriet Dart and Dan Evans. Right now, Britain is in a 2-0 lead against Spain.

The Spaniard who has already arrived in Australia to play at the United Cup has a lot of things to work on to have some chances in the Australian Open. Nadal is scheduled to play alongside Paula Badosa in his next match. Pablo Carreno Busta and Marc Lopez are also part of Team Spain whereas World No 1 Carlos Alcaraz will skip the first edition of the tournament.

Rafael Nadal started his 2022 in the best possible way after bagging the Summer Set 1 ATP-250 title in Melbourne. Then in the Australian Open final, at almost 36 years of age, after going down 2 sets and 2-3(0-40) against the best hard court player on the tour & the most recent slam winner (Daniil Medvedev), he went on to win it in 5 sets.

Though the abdomen injury had taken a toll on his body and performance in the second half of the season, Nadal will still be happy for a great first half including a record 14th title in Roland Garros. fans are expecting a fresh and healthy Nadal on the court in 2023.
