Rafael Nadal‘s news of comeback has taken the tennis circuit by storm. In a social media post, the Spaniard announced his comeback starting January at Brisbane International. After staying out of the court for almost 350+ days, the southpaw will be gracing the tennis court. The hip injury forced him to miss the entire 2023 season.
Before his comeback in Australia, the Spaniard reached Kuwait to practice for his upcoming majors. He will be training in his Rafael Nadal Tennis Academy in Kuwait. Earlier, the Spaniard had also invited the young prodigy Arthur Fils to train with him. Fils had an amazing season this year finishing runners-up in the ATP Nextgen tournament.
A video of a practice session between the two has surfaced on Twitter. In the video, Rafa is seen giving it all out against the young talent.
Fils has been in a good momentum this season winning his first ATP Tour Singles in Lyon this year. The 19-year-old will learn a lot from a veteran like Nadal. Moreover, Rafa will get a good practice session with the young one before the Majors start in January. With the return around the corner, Nadal will gain some momentum himself to make a strong statement in the Australian Open.
Is the 2024 season Rafael Nadal’s last?
There are rumors in the tennis circuit that this is going to be Rafa’s last professional season. The 22-time Grand Slam Champion, however, said on Thursday that he can’t confirm whether this season is going to be his last before retirement. The Spaniard added that it “makes no sense” to announce a deadline for his career.
The Spaniard has earlier said he is just looking forward to enjoying his tennis and gaining his competitiveness back. Rafa is looking to play all four major Grand Slam events in the next season.
However, the injuries he has been nursing will take a heavy toll on his body. Injuries have never been kind to Rafa in his career. Even before the hip injury, he had to withdraw from the Wimbledon due to an abdominal injury.
After the match against Mackenzie Mcdonald in the Australian Open, Rafa will be again stepping inside the court after the longest gap of his career. The Spaniard’s name was included in the entry list for the Australian Major on Tuesday. His old foe and rival Novak Djokovic have welcomed him back after the entry list was announced with Rafa’s name on it.
