The 2023 US Open concluded with a bang as the returning champion Novak Djokovic beat Daniil Medvedev to win his 4th US Open title. Initially, the Serb was tied with the iconic Serena Williams at 23 singles titles but with his current win, he surpassed her and joined Margaret Court in the 24 title club. Fans were elated by this feat and showered the champion with immense love.
As the saying goes, with love there also comes hate, fans have fired shots at Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer who are unable to compete with the Serb at the moment. Via AS, Nadal revealed his opinion about Novak surpassing him. “I have said it when I was the one who won the most Slams, I said it when we were tied. I say it now that I am behind. I am not going to be the one who tries, through a personal struggle, to want to be what I am not. What is, is. And what is not, is not. I say this, I am very satisfied with everything I have done,” said Rafa.
The 36-year-old Serb has not only more Grand Slams than Federer and Nadal but also has surpassed both of them in overall titles which is 69. Nadal is way behind with 59 titles. Federer has retired with 55 titles and Rafael is supposedly playing for a year more so Djokovic has taken a well-deserved lead to etch his name on the walls of history.
Rafael Nadal states that Novak is one of the best tennis players
In a recent interview with AS, Nadal had revealed his plans but he also praised Novak with kind words. “I think with respect to titles, Djokovic is the best in history and there is nothing to discuss about it,” said the Spaniard in his interview. He respects Novak for his incredible achievement over the years and has no embarrassment stating so.
The Clay Court king has also said a few kind words to Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard considers the youngster as Novak’s only rival right now. Despite losing his record, Nadal is very happy with what he has achieved and has never been the one to compete in only slams.
