The whole Pat Rafter Arena echoed with the chants of Rafael Nadal as the Spaniard made his comeback after a year. With a dominant straight-set victory against Dominic Thiem, the Spaniard also created history with the win. He surpassed the great Ivan Lendl for the fourth-most wins of all time.

Rafa beat Thiem 7-5, 6-1 to advance to the next stage of the tournament. During the post-match interview, the Spaniard was informed about the statistics, and he gave a hilarious reply to continue entertaining the fans.

He made his comeback loud and clear and said that he did not know about the statistics and just remembered how to play in a competitive and professional game.

Well, you can imagine today was not in the statistic that I have been aware of so I had enough work to be focussed and come back on court and remember how to play in a professional match.
Said an excited Nadal in the after match interview.

In addition to this, the Spaniard also reveals that he had nerves before the game, as he was returning after a long time and was just grateful for how things went.

Lastly, he is excited to be back on court tomorrow, where he faces Jason Kubler. After a strong return, the eyes have turned towards the 37-year-old to perform better and hopefully win a couple of tournaments in the year.

After the match victory against Dominic Thiem, Nadal took the court to give back to the fans who stayed back to witness the game.

He hit a couple of balls to the fans but at the start, he faked a hit that left the already roaring crowd cheering even louder. The fans were extremely delighted with the return of the Spaniard and kept the cheering going on till the time Nadal left the court.

Nadal also reveals that he is extremely delighted and emotional to be back in Australia after a year which was one of the toughest year for him. He is also grateful to be back in a positive way to play the game at a positive level.

He now returns to play tomorrow against Jason Kubler. With a whole year in front of him, the Spaniard will look to return on tour with a strong mindset and a healthy body to play throughout the year.
