The Pat-Rafter Arena witnessed another masterclass from the ‘King of Clay’ himself as Rafael Nadal left his opponent questioning during the quarter-finals match at the Brisbane International. Nadal has a whole armory of shots under his sleeve, and every one of them deserves to be applauded.

However, it was his dictating forehand that stole the show and left his opponent bamboozled during the point. Nadal unleashed a forehand shot to the backhand of his opponent, Jordan Thompson ripped another one, and one more before hitting his iconic forehand that landed on the far end of his opponent.

The ball bounced just on the edge, far from the reach of Thompson who was left watching the ball sail away. The shot had everything a player usually looks for, precision and power. With absolute accuracy, the ball landed just before the baseline but far from the reach of Thompson. The forehand isn’t just a shot, it is a result of the hard work the 37-year-old has put in over the last year and the shot is a mark of a statement. As a statement, which clearly marks the return of Nadal to the tennis league.

It is often known to be one of the most uncomfortable shots but it surely is a good weapon for the 22-time Grand Slam champion. He even marked his return by winning his first point with his iconic forehand against Dominic Thiem.

This shot won him his first point on serve in the second set. After a hard fought first set win 7-5, the second set only got harder for the Spaniard as he obediently played his shots winning points as he went. However, with the semi-finals position in line, his opponent did not give in one bit and kept Nadal fighting for the points. The Australian took the second set of the game and continued his momentum into the third, slowly stealing the game away from the Spaniard. With high stakes ahead of them, both the players will look to go the yards to try and win the match.
