‘The Big Three’ consisting of Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer have had impactful positions in tennis and have dominated the sport longer than any tennis player. While the ‘Swiss Maestro’ and former World No. 1 Roger Federer walked away from the sport in 2022, Nadal has been kept from the 2023 season after he sustained a hip injury during his Australian Open campaign earlier this season.

Meanwhile, his arch-nemesis Novak Djokovic enjoyed a stellar season after bagging three out of four Grand Slam singles titles and becoming the first professional to level Margaret Court’s 24 major titles record. Regardless of the Spaniard’s absence from the tour, Nadal has managed to maintain a breathtaking record which seems highly unlikely for the Serb to break.

Rafael Nadal, popularly dubbed the ‘King of Clay’, enjoys holding the record of having triumphed in the most number of Grand Slam titles (4), without dropping a single set. This feat has enabled the 37-year-old to surpass Björn Borg’s previously held record of 3 crowns. The Spaniard’s record comes into consideration owing to his French Open wins in 2008, 2010, 2017 and 2020.

Federer, on the other hand, has won the 2007 Australian Open and the 2017 Wimbledon without dropping a set. However, Serbian tennis star Djokovic has been a stranger to the list, failing to have clinched any Grand Slam title without dropping a set.

Considering the cut-throat competition from the younger generation in the ATP Tour, it is highly unlikely for Djokovic to outclass the Spaniard’s record. Although the 24-time Grand Slam champion continues to deliver immaculate results, his rivals, including the likes of Daniil Medvedev and Carlos Alcaraz, would potentially thwart his dream run for achieving the feat.

The 37-year-old has only appeared in two tour-level matches this year. His 2023 run was hampered after a recurring hip injury during his second-round clash against Mackenzie McDonald. This unfortunate incident further prevented his participation in the tour’s upcoming events.

However, the former World No. 1 went under the knife for a corrective surgery for his injury concerns and after an extensive rehabilitation period, Nadal will finally return to the court with his participation in the Brisbane event. The Spaniard will later proceed to mark his attendance in the season’s first Grand Slam, the Australian Open.
